Genoa –
Andriy Shevchenko has returned to Italy and this time as a coach. He came to challenge the tacticians in Italy.
Genoa appointed Shevchenko as the new coach after sacking Davide Ballardini last weekend. This is also Shevchenko’s first trip as a coach at club level.
Shevchenko’s initial coaching steps began with the Ukrainian national team since 2016. Initially, the former AC Milan and Chelsea striker became an assistant coach starting in February 2016 before being appointed as coach five months later.
Italy is a familiar place for Shevchenko, a big name since becoming AC Milan’s goal machine. Italy is also known as a very tactical football country and Sheva felt that accepting Genoa’s proposal was the right decision to absorb a lot of coaching knowledge.
“Studying in Italy is very important. Being able to work with coaches like Carlo Ancelotti, Alberto Zaccheroni and Cesare Maldini is an amazing experience. Coming to coach in Italy means being able to challenge the best tacticians and it’s an interesting challenge for me,” said Shevchenko. as quoted from Italian Football.
Shevchenko also said that the ideas of the Genoa club officials were in line with his thoughts. That’s what makes him not hesitate to strengthen the oldest club in Italy.
“I am impressed by Josh Wander (of 777 Partners, the new owner of Genoa) and the project of Genoa to bring me back to Italy, a country with which I have a special bond,” Shevchenko revealed.
“Genoa is an important club, it’s a project I care about and the number one goal for us right now is to be in Serie A again next season. It’s the oldest club in Italy and that means something. I hope to stay here for a long time. .”
