Shenice Palacios, from Nicaragua, was crowned Miss Universe 2023, in the 72nd edition of the competition, which was organized this year in El Salvador.
On Saturday, Palacios (23 years old) received the crown and sash from the former American Miss Universe, Arboni Gabriel.
This is the first time that a young woman from Nicaragua has won this competition. Thai Antonia Porsild was named first runner-up, and Australian Murraya Wilson was named second runner-up.

Palacios, who said that “humility and gratitude” are her basic qualities, won over 83 contestants who participated during a week of competitions, which included wearing swimwear, evening dresses, and traditional dresses.

In her answer to the final question before the jury, Palacios stressed “the importance of equal pay between the sexes, so that women can work in any field,” adding: “There are no limits for women.”
All entries were showcased on a stage in the newly renovated Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium in the capital, San Salvador.
The next concert will be held in Mexico
The organizers of the celebration, which was attended by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, announced that the next edition will be held in Mexico.
