Bond yields are barely moving, after the slight decline on Monday. Interest rates had risen sharply in recent months, as the improving economic outlook pushes up inflation. Investors eagerly await Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s press conference Wednesday evening after the two-day policy meeting of the US central bank. In particular whether he sees reason to intervene in the event of a clearly further rise in interest rates.
Macro-economist Jeroen Blokland of Robeco is not yet concerned about inflation. “First, in many areas, such as the eurozone and Japan, inflation remains far from central bank targets. The risks of overrun are low. In the US, inflation risks are higher, but not enough to derail the equity markets. However, things look less favorable for bonds, with rates likely to rise further in the coming months. ”
