ANNOUNCEMENTS•
Energy companies Shell and Eneco have won the tender for a new wind farm in the North Sea with their partner company Ecowende. They are acquiring the western lot VI of the large Hollandse Kust wind farm, which is more than 50 kilometers off the coast near IJmuiden. This was announced by the Ministry of Economy and Climate Policy and Ecowende.
The wind farm will be built in an environmentally friendly way, with the least possible impact on nature and marine life. Concern for biodiversity was a ministry requirement for the tender.
New foundation techniques are used for the wind farm which have the least possible impact on the soil and life under water. Natural reef structures are built underwater to promote the variety of underwater life. The windmills are also placed further apart to give space for the birds.
The wind farm will have a capacity of 756 megawatts with 54 wind turbines. The production of this wind farm represents three percent of the Dutch electricity needs, the energy consumption of about one million households.
The wind farm is to be commissioned in 2026. It is being built without subsidies.
