Mexico City. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that his successor Claudia Sheinbaum will inaugurate hospitals that he began building during his administration, because he will no longer have time.
He mentioned the ISSSTE hospital in Acapulco, after the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, presented the progress of the reconstruction of the port, after the passage of the hurricane Otiswith government support so far amounting to 35 billion pesos.
“It is a large ISSSTE hospital, equipped with the best. All this also includes the rehabilitation of the clinics,” said the president.
He recalled that in Guerrero an agreement was reached with Teletón to have a care center in La Montaña, while in Acapulco another center was reopened, where in collaboration with the government, scholarships are awarded for children’s therapies.
“And it is also important, I won’t have enough time, to build a large hospital in the Guerrero Mountains, in Tlapa.” This is, he said, one of the two hospitals that are being built in poor areas with the money obtained from the sale of the presidential plane. The other one, in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, is also well advanced, he said.
The president mentioned that there are also advances in five more IMSS hospitals, including O’Horán and Ticul, in Yucatán, as well as in Puebla and Zaragoza, Mexico City, which will be inaugurated by the next president.
All of them “are under the responsibility of military engineers, and there is a commitment that they will be finished with civil works by the end of the month, but installation and operation will take two more months. They will be inaugurated in December.”
He mentioned that in the case of ISSTE there are six. “The one in Torreón and Los Cabos is already finished and tomorrow we are going to inaugurate the one in Palenque, and there are three more.”
He indicated that the budget is available to complete the works and reiterated that by the end of the month “we will have all the general practitioners and all the specialists. The nurses are practically complete for all the centers, medical units and hospitals in the health sector.”
Regarding the purchase of hospitals, he indicated that “there is also a lot of progress, an agreement was reached, there are around ten,” but he admitted that there are differences with two companies. “They are resisting… they are waiting for me to leave. I would advise them to resolve it in the next few days, because I know the president-elect very well, better than them, and she is very upright. In one of these, I will come out on top.”
So, “don’t think you’re going to go back to the way things were before, no. It’s healthier to think that there is a new reality.”
Ariadna Montiel, Secretary of Welfare, detailed the support provided at the port. She indicated that 97 percent of chain stores, such as supermarkets and banks, are operating.
He explained that to deal with the emergency, support was provided to the victims, such as hot meals, food supplies, and packages of household goods, by the National Defense. Also, medical attention, delivery of support, construction of public spaces, community centers, public squares, support for relatives of deceased people, among others, were provided.
