Through her account on X (formerly Twitter), the president Claudia Sheinbaum warned about the possible effects of tropical depression “Once-E”, which could become tropical storm “Kristy” and hit the coasts of the southeast of the country in the next 24 hours.

“It will bring heavy rains on the coasts of Oaxaca y Guerrero. We ask the population to stay away from river beds, stay in high places and approach shelters, as well as follow the instructions of the authorities,” he warned in his publication and offered that the authorities will continue to inform.

In her message, the president referred to a statement from the National Water Commission (Conagua), in which it specifies that “Kristy” arrives “during the night of tomorrow, Thursday or the first hours of Friday, between Playa Corralero and Puerto Ángel, Oaxaca.”

The document indicates that “a prevention zone was established for the effects of a tropical storm from Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca, to Pijijiapan, Chiapasbecause the circulation and cloudiness of the system generate cloudiness and rain in Oaxaca and Chiapas, as well as the entry of humidity towards the center and east of the country.”

For today, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicts that once the tropical depression becomes a storm, reaches maximum sustained winds of 63 to 119 kilometers per hour off the coast of Oaxaca.

He estimated that it will move slowly parallel to the Oaxacan coast to make landfall during the night of Thursday or the first hours of Friday, between Playa Corralero and Puerto Ángel, Oaxaca.

“Once on land, ‘Kristy’ will continue with a slow movement, moving parallel to the coasts from Guerrero to Jalisco”, according to the forecast of the specialists.

This will generate extraordinary rains in Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco; intense in Guerrero and Campeche; and from strong to very strong in Michoacán, Morelos, State of Mexico and Puebla.

Conagua assured that, together with the Secretary of the Navy, “they implement various warning actions, preparation of emergency response teams, surveillance and management of port and hydraulic infrastructure, in order to reduce, as much as possible, the impact of the rains and winds, in the population, as well as attending to emergency situations that may arise in a timely manner”.
