Sheinbaum seeks to ratify pact with food producers

Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo wishes to sign an agreement with food and corn flour producers, as well as with representatives of marketing companies, in order to keep the price of the basic basket stable.

This morning, in her conference at the National Palace, the head of the Executive also reported that next week she will meet with representatives of the business sector to define agreements to strengthen private investment in the country and the so-called relocation.

“I want to ratify the agreement that had been signed with businessmen, particularly corn flour producers, food producers and marketers of the basic basket so that we can sign an agreement so that the basic basket does not increase. “It is an agreement that I want to sign and we are talking to them,” he noted.

Last six-year term, due to the inflationary increase derived from the pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed an agreement with the productive sectors and the leaders of the self-service chains so that the basic basket in around of one thousand pesos, an agreement that the new president wants to ratify.

“The Secretary of the Treasury has already contacted them, the objective is to sign this month to continue guaranteeing that the basic basket does not increase,” he stated.

Likewise, he commented that he spoke with the president of the Business Coordinating Council, Francisco Cervantes, to hold a meeting next week with the business sectors to strengthen private investment.

He indicated that the head of the Ministry of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard; and the coordinator of the government’s Business Council, Altagracia Gómez, are working to have agreements with businessmen.

On October 15, he added, there will be a meeting with businessmen from the United States and Mexico “to be able to talk about relocation, what schemes to make this program we have to strengthen the industrialization of the country a reality.”
