Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum regretted the murder of priest Marcelo Pérez, which occurred yesterday in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.
In a very brief message at the beginning of her morning conference from the National Palace, the president indicated that there is coordination with the state government to advance the investigations into the motive for the homicide.
He mentioned that the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, is in contact with the Chiapas government, as well as with the Diocese of San Cristóbal.
Later, Sheinbaum commented that since the murder occurred, Rodríguez notified her of the incident, for which he immediately instructed her to establish contact with Governor Rutilio Escandon and the Diocese.
Given that the change in the governorship of Chiapas is next December, work is also being done with the elected governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez.
When asked if the Attorney General’s Office will take the case, President Sheinbaum commented that this is a decision of that institution.
When asked about what the federal government will do regarding the complaints that the priest made about the violence in Chiapas and the displacement of people in that town, Sheinbaum asked that in the coming days, when the governors – current and successor – come to the Security Cabinet to give a general report.
In this context, he announced that this Tuesday, the governor of Guanajuato, Denise García, will attend the Security Cabinet “to be able to coordinate, because beyond the fact that she is from another political party, it is necessary to act together.” He mentioned that the presence of federal corporations in León and Celaya has been reinforced, starting with this administration.
He asserted that in some entities it is necessary to reinforce attention to social causes, but in other entities it is necessary to arrest agents that generate violence.
Although there is a National Security Strategy, I emphasize, in each entity there are certain particularities that imply some particular measures.
