Mexico City. Virtual president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum offered the parents of the 43 normalistas who disappeared almost 10 years ago that “we will not forget the Ayotzinapa case” and to work together on a method that will allow the young people to be found.
After a nearly two-hour meeting at the Mexico City Museum, Sheinbaum said there would be another meeting, although there is no date set yet.
“We met with the parents, lawyers and representatives of the United Nations and we agreed to continue meeting, that we will not forget the Ayotzinapa case and that we will continue working with them and we will find a working method that will allow us to do what they are asking for: truth, justice and where they are,” he said in a brief statement outside the museum.
-Is there a date for the next meeting? – he was asked.
-We haven’t decided yet, but we are going to meet -he said-
-Were the parents reassured by this meeting?
-Yes, I think so. Obviously they are victims, they are in a lot of pain and we have to find a way to find the truth.
-What is your commitment to them?
-Continue meeting with them and working together. We will agree on some things, not others, but the important thing is that we continue walking together in the truth.
Sheinbaum said that, although she is not yet the constitutional president, “I believe we have reached an agreement to continue working together.”
Later, in a message on his account on the X network, he elaborated:
“I met with the mothers and fathers of the students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Teachers’ College in Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, who disappeared on the night of September 26, 2014. I promised to put all my will into continuing the search for truth, justice and finding their children. We will continue to meet.”
