Sheinbaum obtains first place in university electoral simulation

In the public universities of the 32 entities of the country, students from more than 200 faculties, schools and academic units carried out the university electoral simulation. At the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), eleven boxes were installed in the Faculties of Political and Social Sciences, Architecture, Social Work, Dentistry, Philosophy and Letters, Economics, Accounting, and in the CU Metro. At the close of the polls and after the count was carried out, it was reported that the first place was obtained by the presidential candidate of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition, Claudia Sheinbaum.

The second place was obtained by the candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez from MC and the third place went to the candidate from PRI, PAN and PRD, Xóchitl Gálvez.

Pamela Guevara, student of the organizing committee of the Electoral Simulation, reported that at 10:30 a.m., 300 polling stations were installed in the 32 states of the republic. Three hours later, she indicated that at 1:30 p.m., 70,500 students, workers and academics from public universities had voted.

Two and a half hours later, Guevara said that at the 4:00 p.m. cutoff, 142,426 university students, academics, and workers had paid their bills at nearly 420 campuses in the country.

At night, after 9:30 p.m., Carlos Zazueta, coordinator of one of the boxes at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS), of the UNAM and the Voz Popular collective, reported that in the 11 boxes installed at UNAM, 4T and Claudia Sheinbaum won first place.

Zazueta highlighted that in the Faculty of Sciences, the presidential candidate Sheinbaum obtained 157 votes; Jorge Álvarez Máynez 51 and Xóchitl Gálvez, 25. In Dentistry; The results were the following: Sheinbaum 194, Máynez 60 and Gálvez 50. In Philosophy, the results were: Sheinbaum 164, Máynez 36 and Gálvez 16.

In the polling station installed in the CU Metro the results were: Sheinbaum 277 votes, Gálvez 58 votes and Máynez 89 votes. At the Faculty of Social Work, the following results were obtained: Sheinbaum 140 votes; Gálvez 18 and Máynez 42. The presidential candidate of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition swept all the faculties.

On the other hand, young people from Hidalgo stood in long lines yesterday at the polls installed in higher education institutions to be part of the 2024 university electoral simulation; The organizers initially contemplated six participating schools in Hidalgo, but in the end another nine joined.

Óscar Gálvez, teacher at the state’s Metropolitan University Center, stated that the students were enthusiastically involved in the handcrafting of the electoral furniture; “It is necessary to carry out these types of activities to encourage citizen participation and combat abstentionism,” he stressed.

For her part, Beatriz Vargas, a political scientist who graduated from the Hidalguense Center for Higher Studies, a private school that joined the consultation, indicated that this is “a simulation that is done to guide students, mainly those who are going to vote for the first time. , so that they know what they should do when going to the polls.”

Meanwhile, in Durango only the Universidad Juárez del Estado (UJED) and the Technological Institute carried out the exercise, although with low attendance.

At the UJED Law Faculty, which was where most attendees could be observed, 500 ballots were awarded, but only 40 percent were used.

Francisco Andrés Rodríguez Troncoso, a student at said school and coordinator of the activity there, said that young people are generally the most “apathetic” in constitutional elections, which is why Ricardo Montoya, Saúl Maldonado, Luis Boffil and Jorge A. Pérez , correspondents, sought to encourage them to change that attitude.

The electoral simulation was also carried out at the Campus of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Autonomous University of Yucatán, where four polling stations were installed and around a thousand ballots were available.

Meanwhile, in Oaxaca, the venue was the José Vasconcelos University (private), where it was reported that only approximately 30 Law Degree students participated.
