Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will promote before the G20 that a part of the resources for arms production be allocated to the construction of peace, presenting the Sowing Life Program as an option. He noted that in 2023 alone, spending on weapons was 2.7 trillion dollars.
“In recent years, the arms budget has grown almost three times as much as the world economy has grown, more than 6 percent.” Instead, he stated at a press conference, Sowing Life “sows life, instead of sowing death, which is what is sown when money is allocated to weapons.”
He said that his participation in that meeting will focus on building peace in
the world, with the environment and with the reduction of poverty.”
My proposal, he said, will be “to allocate a part of that resource to global programs,
and what we are proposing is that the Sembrando Vida program, which next year we are going to allocate close to 39 billion pesos for almost 500 thousand families.”
This program, he added, “captures carbon, restores social fabric, links families to the land again, reduces migration. In addition, Mexico invests in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras in this program and in Young People Building the Future.”
He remarked: “the proposal is to allocate a percentage to a program that would be historic in terms of reforestation throughout the world. Mitigate climate change, reduce poverty, reduce migration by addressing the causes and build peace.”
He noted that he is still working with Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente on bilateral meetings with some of his peers within the framework of the meeting. “We are seeing the times,” in response to a question about meeting Joe Biden, president of the United States.
And when asked about his support for migration proposals, he highlighted that Mexico designed a policy to reduce the phenomenon, particularly on the northern border, “which consists of many axes and which we are strengthening. But the most important thing is attention to the causes.”
He pointed out that the comprehensive strategy for the country is being built, the National Development Plan, which includes security, and it will be presented to the next president of the United States, Donald Trump, we will discuss it, but there will be no subordination, he stressed.
The president declined to comment on the explosions that shook the center of Brasilia. “It is complex to give an opinion on an international situation and the particular conditions. “I would reserve my opinion,” he said.
