The president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that the murder of the sisters Adriana and Virginia Ortiz García, women of Triqui origin, is being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office of the State Republic (FGE) from Oaxaca.
In his morning conference, Sheinbaum expressed that, if the investigation requires it, the case could be brought to federal authorities for resolution.
Likewise, he confirmed that the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) is collaborating in the case follow-up to clarify the facts and do justice.
“If it is being investigated, it happened in the City of Oaxaca and so much work is being done with the Prosecutor’s Office and if necessary the case would be brought, the “Secretary of Citizen Security”.

This tragic event occurred early morning of November 6when the sisters returned to their home aboard a taxi in the Francisco I. Madero neighborhood, located in Oaxaca de Juárez.
According to initial reports from the FGE, the women were attacked by an armed group that opened fire on the vehicle in which they were traveling, causing their death at the scene. He taxi driver was also injured by gunshot and was transported urgently to the Civil Hospital to receive medical attention.
The victims, Adriana and Virginia Ortiz García, were known in the region for their work as artisans. Furthermore, they were both sisters Emelia Ortiz Garcíaactivist of the Triqui community and member of the state leadership of the Triqui Struggle Unification Movement (MULT).
Emelia has also had presence in local politicshaving been a substitute deputy for the brunette party in it District 6 of Oaxacabased in Tlaxiaco.
The news has generated outrage and concern among the Triqui community and human rights defenderswho demand that the case be thoroughly investigated and justice be achieved for the victims. Authorities are examining the possible causes behind this attack, in which it is presumed that the militancy and social work of the Ortiz García sisters could have been risk factors.
Civil organizations have expressed their concern about the increase in attacks on human rights defenders in the state of Oaxaca, and have called on the authorities to implement protective measures and guarantee the safety of activists and their families.
With the support of the State Prosecutor’s Office and federal intervention if necessary, authorities hope to clarify this case and ensure that those responsible face the corresponding legal consequences.
