I like going to the Châlons fair. Concerts are €6 on site or €4.50 in advance. The Colmar wine fair used to have similar prices but their prices quickly increased to become classic. So I try to go there once a year because I really like the local atmosphere. It’s 137km from my home. It’s ok.
So tonight, it was Sheila. She literally blew me away. The lady is 79 years old. She sings divinely well. She has a well-rounded repertoire. Her latest album is excellent, she’s going to play 5 or 6 songs from it. The song The rumor is a masterpiece of writing. “But let the flame waver, Annie will never go out.”
Sheila draws from all of her eras. School’s out, Bang Bang for the 60s. Gloria or Spacer for the 70s or 80s.
Spacer. A treat to write too. I love playing this title on the guitar. A jubilant rhythmic precision. The genius of Nile Rodgers will have somehow revived Sheila’s shaky career. So she sings it on the beat just right to trigger the vibration. Then she ends in a wild choreography with her two young 19-year-old dancers who impress with their exceptional dexterity. Here again, Sheila gives us a great look, time has no impact on her and we imagine that we could have her on stage like this until she’s 80.
The weather was mild and the evening was full of charm. So much so.
