The Credo Bonum Foundation presents from September 4 to October 24 the Continuum exhibition of Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa – the most famous artist in Bahrain and one of the most prominent Middle Eastern authors known in the world of contemporary art. The audience will see minimalist painting inspired by op art, revealing extraordinary creativity. The exhibition includes works from the series “Spectre”, “Waves” and “Roses of Bagatelle”.
“Spectre” offers an up-to-date approach to the “rules of repetition” in the aesthetics of Islam, artfully fusing traditional visual principles with echoes of modern Arabic architecture. “Waves” pays homage to Bahrain’s maritime history, “Roses of Bagatelle” takes the audience on a delicate journey inspired by the flora of the Château de Bagatelle, and reflecting the artist’s contemplation of the rose as nature and metaphor.
“I am glad to bring my works to Sofia, it is an honor for me to present them in your beautiful city. Through these series, I aim to connect the cultural heritage with a modern perspective, inviting the viewers to immerse themselves in a symphony of tradition and modernity”, shares the Sheikh artist. In Bulgaria, Europe and America he was presented by the internationally known curator Stefan Stoyanov. “Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa’s works bear his inherent futuristic sensibility – they are reminiscent of the past, but at the same time reflect the future. His works are often built on contrasts. He transforms the light, colors and atmosphere of the Kingdom of Bahrain into impressive wall sculptures and fascinating installations,” says Stefan Stoyanov.
Vesela Nozharova, the curator of Credo Bonum, commented: “Sheikh Rashid’s artistic journey has evolved from deeply emotional figurative painting through abstract compositions to large-scale outdoor sculptures where he boldly experiments with materials, colors and symbols. His creativity, unique and fascinating, always leads a dynamic dialogue with the audience. The works were created in recent years and the beauty of the Far Eastern sea, sky and desert, deep reverence for nature are masterfully synthesized in an exquisite form.
Recognized as the foremost patron of museums in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sheikh is the chairman of the National Arts Council in his homeland. An avid collector and philanthropist, he established a foundation in his name in 2020.
