Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launches National Policy for Digital Quality of Life in UAE

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, adopted the National Policy for Digital Quality of Life, in January 2021, to create a safe digital society and promote a positive identity with meaningful digital interaction in the UAE.

The Digital Quality of Life Council was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers, and its membership includes 10 government agencies, headed by Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. Among its duties, it is responsible for developing and following up on the implementation of policies and programs to ensure the digital quality of life of citizens, and to spread values. Purposeful interaction behaviors in the digital world, positive communication with others, healthy digital behavior, and raising digital awareness for all segments of society, in addition to encouraging the purposeful use of technology.

The National Policy for Digital Quality of Life, which was prepared and adopted by the Digital Quality of Life Council, in partnership with relevant entities and institutions, aims to enhance the quality of digital life in the UAE, through 4 main axes:

  • Digital Capabilities – Building the capabilities of community members and enabling them to use the Internet consciously and properly
  • Digital Behavior – Promoting positive digital values ​​and behaviors
  • Digital Content: Preparing guides to guide the community towards using positive content
  • Digital communication: protecting users from the risks resulting from dealing with suspicious or hacking parties.
  • In conjunction with the launch of the National Policy for Digital Quality of Life, 4 initiatives were adopted to enhance the digital quality of life in the country, which are:

  • The knowledge platform for digital quality of life – an electronic portal that includes awareness content to build digital capabilities, especially for students, parents, teachers, people of determination, and senior citizens.
  • Charter of Positive Digital Citizenship Values ​​and Behaviors – The Charter keeps pace with the changes that the world is witnessing in light of the era of digital governance and the tolerance, coexistence, and noble human values ​​that characterize Emirati society by enhancing the quality of digital life and establishing a safe and positive digital society.
  • Digital Quality of Life Curriculum Initiative – aims to include digital citizenship topics in the curriculum from kindergarten to the twelfth grade, in several subjects such as moral education, social studies, Islamic education, Arabic for speakers of other languages, design, technology, computer science, and creative design and innovation.
  • Sanaf platform for evaluating the content of electronic games – The platform allows parents to learn about electronic games, their content, and their nature, before presenting them to children. The platform offers the ability to search for any electronic game, and show the risks that it may contain, which helps the parent choose the most appropriate games for his children.
  • The Charter of Positive Digital Citizenship Values ​​and Behaviors was launched, which frames a set of values ​​and behaviors for positive digital citizenship in the Emirates, represented by 10 items that Internet users in the country pledge to undertake.
