KUWAIT CITY: Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Assabah was reappointed as Prime Minister on Sunday by an Amiri decree. The caretaker cabinet is currently headed by Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf. With the arrival of the Amiri order, there are indications that the ministers will be selected this week and the oath will be taken soon.
Ministers are nominated by the Prime Minister. The government tendered its resignation on February 23 this year amid differences of opinion with MPs and moves to bring a motion to impeach the ministers in the National Assembly. Due to the submission of resignation, the government stayed away from the Parliament session and the proceedings of the Assembly were disrupted.
The current cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al Ahmed Assabah took office on October 17, 2022 after the National Assembly elections. The cabinet included 11 new faces and two women. The two MPs who won the National Assembly also entered the Cabinet. In the 15-member cabinet, three members of the previous government were members. With the completion of the National Assembly elections and the assumption of power by the new cabinet, the general consensus was that political stability would prevail in the country. The government and the MPs had reached an agreement to proceed amicably. But as the dispute continued, the government resigned. Kuwait is hoping that political stability will come with the formation of a new government.
