His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) constitutes an essential pillar for consolidating security and stability in the region.
This came during the meeting that His Highness held today in Abu Dhabi with Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), during which the developments in the situation in the Middle East region and their humanitarian repercussions were discussed.
The meeting reviewed ways to meet the humanitarian needs of the brotherly Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, and efforts to deliver relief and medical aid to civilians in an intensive, sustainable and unhindered manner.
During his meeting with Lazzarini, His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s firm support for UNRWA, noting that the agency, in light of the current challenges, achieving sustainability for its humanitarian work has become an urgent priority, which requires the solidarity of all actors in the international community to support the agency and all international efforts made to relieve the people. His Highness stressed that UNRWA plays major, vital roles in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions that the brotherly Palestinian people are suffering from, especially in the Gaza Strip. His Highness added that the UAE is keen to stand by it and support it in its humanitarian missions.
His Highness also stressed that ending extremism, tension and violence in the region and reaching a sustainable ceasefire is the way to provide protection for all civilians, prevent further loss of life, and provide the necessary humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.
The meeting was attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the State to the United Nations.
