In a match in England’s second-highest league, Sheffield Wednesday fans displayed extremely despicable behaviour. To provoke Sunderland supporters, they decided to wave a photo of a boy who was linked to the club and died at the age of 6 after a serious illness.
In the 9th round of the English EFL Championship, Sheffield Wednesday lost 0:3 to Sunderland at their own stadium. However, the entire football world was shocked by the behavior of two home fans who expressed their dissatisfaction with the results of the team, which is in last place in the table, in an extremely disgusting and derogatory way.
In football stadiums, fans’ provocations against opponents are nothing new. However, there are certain lines of behavior that were clearly crossed this time when two stadium goers in the home section pointed a picture of Bradley Lowery towards the visitors’ stand. The boy was a huge Sunderland fan and died after a battle with cancer.
When Bradley Lowery was just 18 months old, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare type of cancer. The young boy bravely fought against an insidious disease and became one of the symbols of the club. He developed a close relationship with former Sunderland player Jermain Defoe and was supported by players from other teams.
Bradley Lowery died in 2017 when he was just 6 years old and the club has been honoring his memory ever since. A foundation that collects funds to help children in need also bears the name of the young fan. However, not everyone can respect his memory.
We are aware of the images circulating and have launched an immediate investigation together with South Yorkshire Police.
We roundly condemn this outrageous and utterly deplorable behaviour. We can only apologise for the undoubted distress caused to Bradley’s family and friends.

Sheffield Wednesday apologized for the disgusting behavior of the two men in an official statement: “We are aware of the circulation of this footage and have immediately launched an investigation in partnership with South Yorkshire Police. We strongly condemn such outrageous and outrageous behavior. We have no choice but to apologize to Bradley’s family and friends for the distress this has caused them.”
Shortly after the incident, police visited Bradley Lowery’s parents to find out how the situation was affecting them. The police also announced that they are investigating the whole matter and one of the men has already been accused of violating public order.
Let’s not give those two disgraceful ‘fans’ anymore publicity, instead we want to highlight the amazing work of the proper Sheffield Wednesday fans.

To the disgusting incident, other Sheffield Wednesday fans decided to respond with a beautiful gesture by organizing a fundraiser, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Bradley Lowery Foundation. Within a few days, they managed to collect several thousand euros.
