Festival creators in category Rebellions have chosen films about personalities who, with a personal example, make the world better, socially integrated, creative and human.
Constructions is a film about the poet Uldis Bērziņš: it tells about the poet ‘s daily life, traces the current life events and relationships of Bērziņš House. The title of the movie Constructions has several meanings. It is a reference to the language constructions of the poet Ulža Bērziņš and the author’s view of Bērziņš House constructed by the author, as well as the poet’s relations with the world and language. Bērziņi House is also the home of the poet’s daughter Una and son Ansis Ataols, continuing the new construction.

“Bērziņu House is a micro model of a democratic society, each family member arranges their living space here differently, and each of Bērziņi plans it independently,” says the film’s director Ilona Brūvere.
Constructions There are also relationship models that develop during the film, and which Ilona Brūvere follows not only with the camera, but also in correspondence with the poet. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival also takes place online, giving the opportunity to watch festival films and participate in discussions on the website.
In October, several movies, including Constructions, is scheduled to be shown in Sheffield cinemas, subject to current restrictions.
The Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival has been the largest International Documentary Film Festival in the UK for over twenty years and one of the three largest festivals in this category in the world. It is an internationally significant platform that reaches a wide audience, opening up new opportunities for film distribution and screening around the world. The BBC has been named one of the leading documentary film platforms in Europe by the British social media.
This year, only 2,400 films have been submitted to the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival for screening, of which 115 have been selected for screening.
The author of the film, Ilona Brūvere, is a Latvian film and television director, journalist and pioneer of the documentary game genre in Latvia. The director has been repeatedly nominated as the Best Documentary Film Director for the National Film Award Kristaps the Great, and won the award in 2012 for the film Version Vera. The film’s creative team also includes cinematographer and Big Kristaps laureate Elīna Bandēna, Dāvids Smiltiņš and television operator Normunds Pavlovskis. Sound director: Mārcis Kreicmanis.
