Philippine Weather: Storms and Showers Impact Luzon and Visayas
The Philippines is bracing for unsettled weather conditions, with heavy rains and strong winds affecting several regions. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued warnings Sunday afternoon about a shear line bringing significant rainfall to eastern Southern Luzon. This weather system, combined with the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), is expected to continue impacting the region for at least the next 24 hours.
According to PAGASA’s forecast, the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas are experiencing cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line. These conditions are expected to persist.
Meanwhile, the Amihan, or Northeast Monsoon, is bringing cloudy skies and rain to the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon provinces. While the Amihan will also affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, PAGASA indicated that the impact will be relatively minor.
Further south, the Intertropical Convergence zone (ITCZ) is causing cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Caraga and Davao Regions. These storms could bring moderate to heavy rainfall at times, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
The ITCZ is also contributing to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated showers or thunderstorms across the rest of Mindanao. Similar conditions, attributed to localized thunderstorms, are expected in the Visayas.
Residents in affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property. The potential for flash floods and landslides is a serious concern, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
PAGASA also reported strong winds and rough coastal waters in Northern and Central Luzon. Moderate to strong winds and moderate to strong coastal water conditions are anticipated in the rest of Luzon and the eastern Visayas. Elsewhere in the country, winds will be light to moderate, and coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
Monday’s sunrise is predicted for 6:13 a.m. local time.

Philippines Braces for Heavy Rains and Strong Winds as Shear Line and Amihan Impact Luzon and visayas
Senior Editor: Welcome back to world Today News. We’re discussing the unsettled weather conditions gripping parts of the Philippines right now. Wiht me today is Dr. Amelia santos, a renowned meteorologist specializing in Southeast Asian weather patterns. dr. Santos, thanks for joining us.
Dr. Santos: Thank you for having me. It’s important to keep the public informed about these perhaps dangerous weather events.
Senior Editor: Absolutely. So, can you tell our viewers what’s driving these severe weather conditions affecting気になる luzon and Visayas?
Dr.Santos: Sure. We’re experiencing a combination of meteorological phenomena right now. A shear line, which is essentially a boundary between two air masses with different speeds and directions, is impacting Eastern Southern Luzon. This is bringing significant rainfall to the region. Congruently, the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as the Amihan, is also contributing to cloudy skies and rain in areas like Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Senior Editor: These weather systems seem pretty complex. Can you simplify things for our viewers?
Dr. Santos: Think of it like this: the shear line is a bit like a “traffic jam” of air masses, creating instability and producing heavy rainfall. The Amihan, on the other hand, is a seasonal wind pattern that brings cool, dry air from Siberia. When these two systems interact, it can lead to these localized but intense weather events.
Senior Editor: And what about the rest of the country? Are other regions expecting similar conditions?
Dr. Santos: Further south, the Intertropical Convergence zone (ITCZ) is bringing it’s own share of scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Caraga and Davao regions of Mindanao. This zone, where trade winds meet, is notorious for creating unpredictable weather patterns. We advise residents in these areas to stay vigilant as well.
Senior Editor:So it sounds like this isn’t just a Luzon and visayas problem:
Dr. Santos: You’re right. There’s a chance of localized thunderstorms throughout the rest of Mindanao and the Visayas. It’s a good reminder that even during the “dry” season, the Philippines can experience sudden shifts in weather conditions.
Senior Editor: Dr. santos, what advice do you have for people living in these affected areas?
Dr. Santos: People should take necesary precautions, such as preparing emergency kits, staying informed about weather updates, and avoiding areas prone to flooding or landslides. Remember, your safety is paramount. if you need to evacuate,do so promptly and heed the warnings issued by local authorities.
Senior Editor: excellent advice, Dr. Santos. Thank you for sharing your expertise with our viewers today. We appreciate your time.
Dr. Santos: My pleasure. Stay safe everyone!
