On the afternoon of April 26, 2006, police received a report of a murder at the Richardson home. Three members of the family were killed by 12-year-old Jasmine, the eldest daughter. With the help of her 23-year-old boyfriend, she took the lives of her mother, father and younger sister, who was only 8 years old.
When the news traveled the world about this monstrous crime, everyone wondered what the reason was. Many believed that the “brain” of the operation was her twice older friend Jeremy.
The family lived in Alberta, Canada. At first glance, it was a close-knit family, but for years Jasmine had felt she didn’t belong. She began to behave strangely, dress in Gothic style, wear black lipstick and talk about murders. Pshe experienced punk and rock concerts, and at one of them she met her older boyfriend.
Their relatives still had a good opinion of her and said good things, so it is no wonder that everyone was shocked by what followed.
After the crime, it became clear that Jasmine was a member of a sect that believed in vampires and black magic. Messages were found on her computer, which she exchanged with other members of the religious group.
Jeremy, on the other hand, had a very turbulent life. His mother was an alcoholic, when his parents divorced, his father remarried. His father’s new wife abused him and this left lasting consequences. At the age of 13, he attempted suicide, and a few years later took his own life again, unsuccessfully. He believed he was one of the 300 vampires left on earth. He always carried a bottle of his own blood around his neck.
All this was enough to make the girl’s family think how dangerous it was for their daughter to meet Jeremy, so they banned all contact with him. Still, it cost them their lives. The girl was looking for different ways to see the boy, ran away from school, got out of the house at night.
One day she sent a message to Jeremy sharing her plan that the only way they could be together was to kill her parents. The boy soon replied that he agreed, but they must be a little more “creative.” Jasmine’s friends also found out about her plan, but thought she was joking. No one could have guessed what would really happen.
When a friend of the younger child came to call Jasmine’s younger sister out to play, she came across a horrible sight.
Police arrived quickly and the girl was soon arrested. Jasmine did not plead guilty, but said it was all her friend’s doing. She claimed that all reports of the family’s murder were hypothetical and that she did not intend to kill them.
However, the jury did not believe her, so she received the maximum penalty. As a minor, she could not be sentenced to life in prison, but she had to remain in prison for 12 years until her boyfriend received 25 years.
All the time they spent in prison, the two sent letters to each other, not mentioning the crime they had committed. They talked about how they would get married when they went out.
Jasmine was released when she turned 21, and then no one knows what happened to her.
