She was given a passport by Putin’s decision. Now Natalia Oreiro is leaving Russia

Known for the extremely popular soap operas “Rebel Angel”, “You are my life” and “Kachorra is me”, actress and singer Natalia Oreiro has been visiting Russia regularly for over twenty years. She went there for the first time in 2001.

Oreiro has repeatedly admitted in interviews, she is fascinated by the country and its culture. She regularly posted Russian entries on her social media, wrote and recorded the song “Russia With Love” in 2018, and Russian fans began to call her “our Natasha”. Eventually, the authorities offered her Russian citizenship.

— I travel so much and have so many ties with Russia that I was asked if I would like to formalize this and get citizenship. I replied that it would be an honor. I have submitted the requested documents — Oreiro said in an interview.

The artist and her 10-year-old son Merlin (whose father is Argentinian musician Ricardo Mollo, since 2001 Oreiro’s husband), by the decision of Vladimir Putinreceived passports of the Russian Federation in October 2021. In February, shortly before the invasion, she recorded episodes of the “Musical Intuition” program for the Russian TV TNT.

After Russia’s attack on the territory of Ukraine Natalia Oreiro published posts on her Instagram in which she opposed the war and appealed for peace. It also turned off the possibility of commenting on anti-war entries. Soon after, she went one step further and decided to leave Russia.

Now the actress and singer (together with her son) returned to her homeland, Uruguay, where she quickly found a new job. She became the host of the Uruguayan version of “The Voice” and joined the cast of the talent show “Mask Singer” in Argentina.
