General practitioner and sexologist, Doctor Ségolène Le Reun wears several hats. First, she is the director of the Landerneau-Lesneven sexual health center. “It is a place to listen and get information on emotional life and sexuality, where you are received anonymously. We welcome minors in particular, under the same conditions. The consultation is always carried out by the center’s midwife and by me, if medical expertise is required. This consultation may concern contraception, voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG), gynecological monitoring or even screening for sexually transmitted diseases,” explains Ségolène Le Reun.
The territory’s sexual health center is open on Monday mornings at Landerneau hospital, Wednesday and Friday afternoons at the Landerneau Departmental Social Action Center (CDAS) and Friday mornings at the Lesneven CDAS.
Contraception masculine
At the same time, Dr Le Reun also has a “more traditional” consultation activity in Landerneau hospital. She receives women there who want, again, to discuss the issue of contraception or ensure their gynecological follow-up.
But, in March 2023, the case became a little less “classic”. Indeed, on that date, the practitioner opened, still at the Landerneau hospital, a male contraception consultation. An offer that, according to her, would be unique in Brittany. “These slots are open on Tuesday afternoons of even weeks. I receive men who can come alone or as a couple. In 50% of cases, they come to see me for vasectomy requests,” explains Ségolène Le Reun.
A very wide field
And now, the latter has a new topicality. Indeed, it now offers a sexology and sexual health consultation, a first in the department. Slots are open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays in Landerneau as well as on Wednesday afternoons at the Morvan hospital in Brest. “It’s for everyone, all ages, all genders. You can come before you even have a sexuality but are already asking yourself questions. And, of course, I also see elderly people. The issues addressed cover a very broad field: lack of desire, the question of gender, etc.”, assures the doctor.
This consultation is a new offer that must resonate and complement other specialties: “The idea is also that other health professionals can refer patients to me who do not have a fulfilling sexual or emotional life because of a pathology (cancer, diabetes, etc.). In the same vein, a man who has erection or ejaculation problems will first see a urologist who will take care of the prescription. The sexologist will then intervene for follow-up and in-depth work.”
“We talk a lot”
But what does a sexology consultation look like? “The session is quite long, around an hour. We talk a lot, we give tools and information. It is only afterwards, if necessary, that I examine and prescribe, which differentiates me from the sex therapist,” concludes Ségolène Le Reun.
