“She is desperate and in crisis,” says the family of a deputy held in Oaxaca

Oaxaca de Juárez.– After almost 72 hours of the retention of the local deputy Yarith Tannos Cruz (PRI), on behalf of residents of the municipal agencies of San Juan Mazatlan Mixe who blocked federal highway 185 since last Monday, her family denounces that the legislator is in a psychological crisis due to the increase in the aggressiveness of her captors.

On Friday afternoon, residents of communities in this municipality that blocked the Tranístmica highway since last Monday, as a requirement for the delivery of 10 million pesos of federal resources corresponding to 2021, retained the PRI legislator, who was heading to the city of Tuxtepec to a work meeting with transporters.

As the passage from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec towards the Papaloapan Basin and towards Veracruz, at the height of Boca del Monte, was blocked, the deputy went down to try to conciliate with the protesters, who in response deprived her of freedom and kept her handcuffed from the last Friday and until 8 in the morning of yesterday Saturday.

In this regard, the family of the legislator denounces to EL UNIVERSAL that although they have taken her handcuffs, the level of aggressiveness of the residents against her has been increasing, so that the deputy is in a psychological crisis; they also accused the inaction of the state authorities to release her.

“She is held incommunicado, they have her in relay custody, with machete in hand, they took her cell phone and now she has to beg to be taken to the bathroom. They told him to hold on, that he would have to relieve himself in a pasture ”, denounces Yazmín, his sister.

The family accuses that they are even threatening to tie her up, but that despite this neither the state authorities nor the Human Rights Ombudsman have taken action to free her.

“She is not a criminal. They can no longer approach or leave food, but the DH tell us that they cannot approach because there are still no agreements. We don’t see the authorities rushing. “

In desperation, the legislator’s family called on the federal government and Ivette Morán de Murat, the governor’s wife, to intervene in the release of her sister, which they were informed would take place yesterday.

“He spoke to me crying, he said ‘help me, they’re terrible, I’m scared.” We are concerned about her psychological situation, she is entering into a crisis, she is desperate, “said Yazmín Tannos, about the last communication she had with her sister this Sunday at 7:30 in the morning, later they took away her cell phone.

In addition to the PRI legislator, the villagers are also holding a biologist.

Consulted by EL UNIVERSAL, Francisco García López, Secretary General of the Government, reported that after 11 days without having communication with the mayor Macario Eleuterio Jiménez, who had refused to participate in the dialogue tables to resolve the conflict, he promised to deposit federal resources for communities tomorrow; However, the community authorities offered to lift the blockade but that Yarith Tannos and the biologist will remain withheld as collateral until tomorrow, when the deposit is made.
