United States: she fakes a pregnancy and loses her fake belly at work (Credit: Getty Images)
A 43-year-old American, a civil servant in the State of Georgia, faked a pregnancy to benefit from her maternity leave. A ploy that could have worked if his fake belly hadn’t betrayed him.
Without the vigilance of his co-workers, Robin Folsom could have fooled his world for a long time. Equipped with a fake belly, this director of communications for a Georgia State agency, did not hesitate to make her bosses believe that she was expecting a baby. Its goal ? Go on maternity leave and continue to receive her salary of around 100,000 dollars, or 89,187 euros, without working.
Reported by the New York Post, the case seems ubiquitous. In October 2020, Robin Folsom declared that she was pregnant and announced the birth of her baby in May 2021. The first doubts emerged in March 2021 when one of her colleagues saw the lower part of the false mother’s belly detach from her body. .
Fake babies and a fake husband
But the deception continues after the alleged baby is born. An email sent to Robin Folsom’s bosses by the child’s father claims that, for medical reasons, the new mum cannot return to work for several weeks. The 40-year-old is thus granted seven weeks of paid leave. And continues to feed his lie by sending photos of his newborn to his colleagues. This is when the deception is discovered. “The photos appeared inconsistent and depicted children with different skin tones,” the newspaper said.
After investigation, the police discover that the so-called father of the child, Bran Otmembebwe, simply does not exist. And Robin Folsom’s fabrications don’t stop there. In July 2020, she had already claimed to be pregnant and had tried the experiment again in August 2021. No birth certificate, insurance papers or medical records having been found, the police say “there is no indication that Folsom has gave birth one day.”
Faced with the charges, the official resigned from her job and is charged with three counts of misrepresentation and one count of impersonation.
