settled New York in February of this year and once there, in one of the most evocative cities in the world, he managed to put himself to the test to start retracing a journey full of surprises.
“The opportunity arose thanks to my wife’s company. He works in digital advertising and it just so happened that there was a vacancy for a similar position at the headquarters of New York and his profile matched the search. Our goal has always been to bet abroad, since even though financially we weren’t bad Argentina, we could not design and build in the future due to the way things were going. We lived from month to month more than anything else, and as I got older I felt the need to get another kind of stability. One that can be projected into the future and not so much into the present. It’s a shame because I love my country very much, but you can’t spend the best years of your life waiting for everything to magically improve “, she said in dialogue with Scope.
And I add: I am a television producer and all my career I have worked as Audiovisual producer. I am currently a video editor and create content for other companies. One of the goals I set for myself New York is to start creating content for myself and be able to connect with the audience. “To be known”, to put it more superficially. Transmitting all these new experiences that I live in the city through humour, curious people and my way of being. for this he was born “Teriyakid”.
“I’ve always been afraid of facing scenarios that take me out of my comfort zone. And creating content has helped tremendously in breaking that fear. Fear that things will go wrong, fear of expressing myself and exposing myself on a social network”he remarked.
A life full of adventures
“I’m flat, from the south. I was born in Comodoro Rivadavia but I have lived everywhere (La Plata, Corrientes, United States, Buenos Aires). In 2000, 2001, due to my old man’s work, I had the experience of coming here for two years. I lived one year in Kansas and another in New York. One day I found myself in a public school classroom with new classmates who didn’t speak Spanish. At that age your brain is a sponge and I hooked my tongue to the touch. I realize I’ve always tended to be quite outgoing and had no problem adapting and making friends, but I look back today and it would have been very difficult for someone else to adjust to such a change. I truly believe those were two critical years in my life that defined my personality to this day. then I went back to Argentina and for the studies I stayed there more than anything else Federal Capital”he remembered.
When did you start the surgery?
Teriyakid admits and acknowledges that “creating content is not easy. It’s an extra job. You have to get creative and think about what you will do every day to entertain and engage your audience. You have to be creative, know marketing, graphic designer, community manager, editor, video operator. If you don’t move, no one will do it for you.
“I knew it in United States of America There was a tendency to have the last one and that sometimes generates extreme average consumption, but hey, it is what it is. I went out on the street and saw so many objects in perfect condition and I didn’t understand why they threw them away. LED televisions, armchairs, furniture, lamps, electronics, toysand others,” he confides.
“Then I made a video with the premise of being able to outfit a house with people’s garbage, and that’s where it all exploded. It had 14 million views and I said, ‘ok, that’s it’. I started showing things that Americans discarded and people went crazy. From euphoria, curiosity and indignation. A perfect combination for a viral product”assures.
“I’ve been showing things for a while, but I started getting bored of doing the same things over and over again, so one day I decided I’d challenge myself with these objects. I took them home, another day I sold them and with that money I did something random (for example I sold a board game and donated that money to an Argentinian streamer with 0 views on Contraction). Another day she gave away objects for charity or even went out with followers to have surgery as a tourist alternative ”.
How many hours do you spend
The young southerner tells it “To date, the result is more than half a million followers and more than 50 million views on all my content. Typically, a surgical video takes 3-4 hours to shoot and 1-2 hours to edit. It will depend on the purpose of that intervention”.
“Beyond the numbers, I feel like I managed to unlock a lot of human-level levels. For some reason I’ve always been afraid to face scenarios that would take me out of my comfort zone. And creating content has helped tremendously in breaking that fear. Afraid that things will go wrong for me, afraid to express myself and expose myself on a social network, afraid that my ideas won’t work and famous people will say, deep down I didn’t want to look like an asshole. But in the end I do it because it amuses me, it motivates me and it’s my way of being. I’m 100% transparent and that’s what should matter. Luckily there are people who accept him and help him continue to grow”indicated.
Your long-term goal
In the end, Teriyakid highlighted that “my goal with all of this is to be able to fully devote myself to Teriyakid. I love creating content and seeing the results, I am original and creative and I think in the long run I would get along very well working together with brands/sponsors. I don’t like the term, but nowadays they call it ‘influencers’”.
“I think the craziest and weirdest thing about all of this isn’t the objects themselves, but how they affect other people’s lives.. Whether it’s the happiness my followers feel from the surgery experience in the city, it’s something different and unexpected. And if they’re lucky they get things. Or even the utility that another person who really needs it can give you. I feel the weirdest thing is how items that end up in the trash end up being treasures to other people. However one day I found an electric oven that I was thinking of buying and it saved me a couple of bills,” she concludes with a laugh.
