She explains the different approaches to sector restrictions by the specifics of the Covid-19 outbreak / Day

On Tuesday, the government meeting considered amendments to the regulations on epidemiological safety measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 infection, which, among other things, provide for the exemption of eight square meters per visitor from training in swimming pools.

Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) wanted an explanation for the different approach of the Ministry of Health in setting restrictions related to the spread of Covid-19 in certain sectors. As an example, Kariņš cited the government’s decision last week to tighten restrictions in the field of catering, while today the government decides to relax security measures in a particular sports sector.

Sheel explained that the tightening of restrictions in the field of catering took place because a clearly traceable and sufficiently large outbreak of Covid-19 was observed in public catering establishments within a few weeks.

“The outbreak was related to people’s behavior in public places – both the presence of infected people in these places and a series of walks in several pubs in one day,” said the health minister.

She added that there were no risks of a Covid-19 outbreak at organized sporting events. At the same time, Vķķele acknowledged that sports federations are more open in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, encouraging the catering industry to become more focused on cooperation, then, accordingly, the revision of certain restrictions in this sector could be discussed.

The Minister of Health also emphasized that in the event of an outbreak of Covid-19, the cause of the outbreak would continue to be assessed.
