“I was horrified!”. When Julia Yonkowski went to the ATM last Saturday, she just wanted to withdraw $ 20. But on the ticket confirming the operation, this American living in Florida makes a dizzying discovery: her account is credited with‘a sum close to a billion dollars, 999.9850.855.94 precisely.
According to New York Post, Julia Yonkowski says she was “horrified” at the time. “I know most people would think they won the Loto, but I was horrified!” And for good reason, she was, she believed, suddenly become the 615th fortune of the United States.
“I read stories of people who simply took the money and had to return it later and I won’t because it’s not my money, she adds. I do not know what to think…”.
An error of understanding?
The client then tries in vain to contact her bank to return the money to its rightful owner. A spokesperson for the bank concerned finally explained to the New York Post what Julia Yonkowski misunderstood and that the balance on his receipt “was in fact a negative amount intended to draw his attention to a problem with his account”.
The photos provided by the American, however, seem to show a positive balance of nearly $ 1 billion. The bank claims to have since contacted the client directly to take stock and clarify this situation.
