A 30-something mother from Croatia killed her 3-year-old son so that she could afford a vacation in Macedonia.
The single mother wanted to go on vacation with her partner to Macedonia. She then decided to smother her child with the help of a 15-year-old girl who allegedly kept the pillow on the victim’s face. She then made believe that her child had disappeared. The facts date back to May 2017.
The young woman was sentenced to 33 years in prison in Croatia. After the infant died, the mother disposed of the body in a river in Pula, on the Istrian peninsula. She then reported to the police the disappearance of her son, claiming to have seen him for the last time on a playground. But the police soon doubted his version of the facts. She eventually confessed to everything and told the investigators where the body was.

Impassive
Reading the verdict during her first trial, the 30-year-old remained impassive. Sentenced to 33 years in prison and 2 years in a psychiatric hospital, the Croatian appealed, finding this decision unfair. She estimated that two witnesses – doctors – should have been questioned. They were supposed to testify to her mental illness, she said.
The Supreme Court upheld the sentence given the planning, persistence and cruelty of the murder committed by the accused. As for the young accomplice, she was given 3 years in a juvenile detention center.
