Madeleine Volken has been selling toys and children’s clothes in her “Chinderlade” in the old town of Winterthur ZH since 1982. She has never seen a huge rush like today, on December 24th. “Usually we have the most customers before Christmas on December 23rd. But yesterday it was quiet, ”she says.

Today she’s been in the shop since 9 a.m. “I have been serving customers non-stop,” she says. Most would buy small gifts. “The big things usually go away earlier,” says Volken from experience.

Farms are very popular
Above all, she also knows what will make children’s eyes shine tonight. “Farms and animals were particularly popular. Books on the subject of farms, board games and puzzles, ”she says.
