Canadian artist Shawn Mendes used to be very private and we say he used to because in the last few days things have changed. In less than a week he talked about his sexuality, his love for Camila Cabello and even an unwanted pregnancy. A lot of information all at once!
It is no coincidence, Mendes is about to release his next album. The eponymous production comes out on October 15 and the single ‘Heart of Gold‘ was released today. It is the same song that he performed the week of Liam Payne’s death, to whom he dedicated the performance.

In an interview with New York Timesto promote her album, Mendes noted that she initially disagreed with a producer who suggested she include very personal lyrics about her experience with a pregnancy scare in her song ‘Why Why Why.’
“So I was like, ‘Why am I doing this?’ “I wanted to tear down all the walls that were left between me and people,” Mendes decided in the end. In the song, Mendes sings, “I thought I was about to be a father / “It shook me to the core, I’m still a child / Sometimes I still cry for my mother.”
Although Mendes did not name the couple in question, he has previously been linked to Cabello and Sabrina Carpenter. They are not the only ones, but fans are convinced that the scare was with one of the two.
Shawn and Camila Forever?
The relationship between both artists lasted a decade between comings and goings. They broke up last year, but despite his breakup with Cabello, Mendes shares that she is still an important person in his life.
“I’m nervous just talking about it, just because of what people would say,” Mendes began. “But honestly, to this day, if something happened in my family and if something happened to me, she would probably be the first person I would call,” he revealed.
“Our relationship is teaching me what love means, in a big way,” Mendes noted at the time.
Cabello and Mendes have a long history together. They met when the former ‘Vine’ star and the singer, who was then part of Fifth Harmony, opened for Austin Mahone on tour in 2014. The following year they sparked relationship rumors when they teamed up for the song “I Know “What You Did Last Summer”.
However, it was not until July 2019, when the couple was seen holding hands in Hollywood, that the relationship rumors seemed to be confirmed. Around the same time, they released their song ‘Señorita’.
The couple broke up in 2021. Then, in 2023, they were seen kissing at Coachella, sparking a reunion rumor.
However, they didn’t last and ended up breaking up a second time.
“I’ll always care about him and love him. He’s such a good person. I’m lucky because some people have exes that are horrible, and he’s not. He’s a really kind and good person,” Cabello said on the Call Her Daddy podcast on 2024.
