President Jokowi has stated that the issue of three presidential terms as well as the addition of a term of office is an act of seeking advances. But the volunteer Jokowi Mania (JoMan) breathed the discourse of adding another presidential term. This discourse made the founder of the KedaiKopi survey agency Hendri Satrio (Hensat) laugh because he knew that JoMan was a connoisseur of Jokowi’s tenure.
“Yes, if Joman thinks that Mr Jokowi need to be extended by 3 years, yes, I just laughed. Because he is one of the connoisseurs of Pak Jokowi’s power. So it means he enjoys his position as it is now. But as an intellectual who I believe has integrity, Eben, he should also think about other things besides the reasons he gave,” Hensat told reporters, Thursday (2/9/2021).
“Because the condition of the country is good or bad, if there must be a change, there will be a change. Because it is for the sake of democracy and for the sake of the continuation of the country,” he continued.
Hensat said the reasons for the pandemic and economic improvement could not be used as the basis for extending the presidency. Because, handling the pandemic and improving the economy can be passed on to the next leader.
“If there is a pandemic then there is an economic improvement, yes, the next leader can do it. Elections are expensive, yes democracy is expensive. So don’t then look for reasons that make it seem as if the system is 5 years 1 period multiplied by 2, 10 years. not good,” said Hensat.
Moreover, according to Hensat, even if the discourse on extending the presidency becomes real. That policy should not be enjoyed by Jokowi, but rather the next president.
“Even if the discourse is later opened to increase the presidential term to 8 years, yes, it applies to the next president. Because now it can make our democratic system chaotic, shattered and some regeneration systems are also disrupted, including the economy,” he said.
