Sharp Rise in Mortgage Loan Cancellations Outstrips New Contracts in 2023

Given the instability of the mortgage market registered until the end of last year, what has grown, to exceed the number of new mortgage contracts, are the cancellations of loans to purchase a home. During last year, from January to November, a total of 4,075 mortgages were cancelled. They are 18% more than new loans signed during the same period.

The behavior is unequal depending on the asset to be mortgaged. In this way, the total number of mortgages canceled between January and November of this year decreases compared to last year’s figure. That’s 13 less. Between January and November 2022, 4,088 loans were closed. And two years ago is when interest rates began to run wild. The trend is observed when compared to 2019.

With rates at rock bottom, 804 fewer mortgage loans were canceled than now. When it comes to housing, the trend continues to rise. 2,637 loans have been registered registered, which is 3.4% more than a year ago. In 2022, 88 fewer home mortgages were canceled than this year. The figure compared to 2019 is 37% higher. Then 708 fewer loans were cancelled. In 2022, mortgages on 2,549 homes were canceled and in 2019, 1,929 were canceled. The cancellation of rural properties also increases. From 165 last year to 275 in 2023.
