Several municipalities have sharply increased the fees for water and sewage. The fees have increased more than the general price increase.
General secretary Morten Andreas Meyer in Huseierne says NRK that several municipalities have postponed the necessary maintenance of water pipes and investments in treatment plants for far too long.
– That is why these huge bills are coming to us households now, he says.
The organization has collected figures from 14 of the most populous municipalities in Norway. Most have increased their prices much more than prices have risen elsewhere in society.
Sarpsborg, Skien and Porsgrunn have the highest percentage increase in the overview. There, the fees increase by 44 per cent, 34 per cent and 33 per cent respectively.
In Sarpsborg, the fees for a detached house of 120 square meters increase by NOK 4,585 to NOK 14,675.
Sarpsborg mayor Sindre Martinsen-Evje (Ap) writes in an email to NRK that the fees are increasing due to statutory requirements for replacement of the sewage network and a new treatment plant.
