Due to the increase in global coffee prices, the price of coffee in Morocco will also increase sharply from August 1. An increase that will have consequences for the Moroccan consumer.
Industrial coffee roasters in the kingdom have decided to increase the price of Robusta coffee. The distributor of “Mécafé” and “Kimbo” has already announced that an additional 10 dirham per kilogram will be charged from August 1, Maroc Diplomatique reports. Currently, the price of a ton of Robusta coffee is $2,756.

This decision is justified by the rise in global coffee prices, the annual production of which is about 170 million bags of 60 kg. The cause of this increase is a limited supply, influenced by adverse weather conditions in the main producing countries, such as droughts, floods and other agricultural problems, as well as the increase in production costs due to rising labor costs.

This price increase will affect the wallets of Moroccan households, which consume an average of 3 kg of coffee per person per year. It can also negatively impact the business of hospitality professionals facing growing competition from mobile coffee shops.
