Aug 21, 2023 at 00:02 Update: an hour ago

Companies in the manufacturing industry were faced with a sharp drop in turnover in the second quarter. Income fell by an average of 7.5 percent, the biggest drop since the 2020 corona year, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports.

Refineries and chemical companies in particular were hit hard, with a drop in turnover of almost 30 percent. The paper industry also had to make do with almost 12 percent less. Sales abroad in particular fell sharply in the second quarter.

On the other hand, there were some industries that did well, such as the machine industry and car manufacturers.

The number of bankruptcies in the manufacturing industry rose to 62 in the second quarter, up from 39 a year earlier. However, the number is lower than in the first quarter of this year, when the counter came to eighty companies that went bankrupt.
