The Latin American giant has not registered such a low number of deaths from Covid in one day since April 5 of last year, when the pandemic was in its first weeks and 54 deaths were recorded.

The sharp drop in the daily death toll, from 328 on Saturday to 59 this Sunday, is relative because the Health Ministry recognizes that the numbers generally drop on weekends, when there are fewer officials processing the data.
In addition, four of the 27 states of the country did not transmit their daily data this Sunday, although none of them is among the most populated in the country. The states that delayed the delivery of their figures were Brasilia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Tocantins.
According to the bulletin released on Sunday by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), with the 59 new deaths and the 6,115 new infections registered in the last 24 hours, the total number of Covid victims in Brazil amounted to 609,447 and the cases to 21,880,439 since the start of the pandemic in February of last year. These numbers confirm the Latin American giant, with its 213 million inhabitants, as the second country in number of deaths from the virus. EFE
