This one is not very likely to be seen here at home in the Nordics. Sharp Aquos R6 is currently only available in Japan but is still very interesting.
The recently launched mobile phone has a 1-inch CMOS image sensor with 20 megapixels instead of one of the usual sensors that usually sit in phones. Not only that, Sharp has collaborated with Leica on the optics.
There is probably a 1-inch Sony sensor behind the 19 mm f1.8 Summicron lens from Leica. There are not many others that make 1-inch image sensors and in that case we recognize it from our tests of Sony’s cameras in the RX series.
It is very unusual with such large image sensors in mobiles. But it’s been done before, Panasonic Lumix Smart Camera CM1 from 2015 had a 1-inch CMOS sensor with 20 Mp – and a Leica-labeled lens element in front.
Hopefully the Sharp phone is significantly faster and better to use than the Panasonic phone was. It has at least a 240 Hz 6.6-inch OLED screen that can deliver a full 2000 nits of brightness, with an integrated fingerprint reader.
On the inside there is a Snapdragon 888 circuit with 5G and 2.8 plus 1.8 GHz in a total of eight cores and 12 GB of memory with 128 GB of storage.
Sharp Aquos R6 can also use up to 1 TB microSD card if you want to expand the storage capacity and according to Sharp, the battery life is a full day.
The phone is waterproof and has USB charging and headphone jack.
Here are pictures taken with the Sharp mobile.
