SHARJAH, 2nd August, 2020 (WAM) — Sharjah Media City (Shams) concluded its first edition of the “Shams Games” e-sports tournament, which was organized at the city’s headquarters in the Emirate of Sharjah, with the participation of about 100 professional players.
The player, Omar Al-Hammadi, deservedly won the first place for the “FIFA 2023” game, while the player, Muhammad Al-Basha, came in the second place, while the player, Jumaa Muhammad, won the third place.
Shams distributed cash prizes to the first winners, and other in-kind vouchers were distributed to a number of participants in the tournament, which was characterized by an enthusiastic atmosphere.
His Excellency Rashid Abdullah Al Obed, Director of Sharjah Media City (Shams), said: “The Shams Games Championship, in its first edition, had a social impact in attracting talented people, given the great popularity of these electronic sports, which contribute to the emergence of a generation of innovators.”
He added: “The Shams Games tournament appeared at an advanced technical level, and this is evident in the large number of participants who competed in a sporting spirit to win the first places, congratulating the winners of the tournament, and wishing the best luck to the rest of the participants.”
He stressed that the tournaments implemented by Sharjah Media City, at its headquarters, and through its platform on a weekly basis, shamsgaming.com, come within the framework of the efforts made to strengthen the UAE’s position on the international arena in the gaming and electronic sports sector, in light of the rapid growth that this sector is witnessing, and the consolidation of the Emirate’s position. The participants and the audience expressed their admiration for the level of organization of the sports tournament and the presentation of distinguished competitive levels, considering that the “Shams Games” championship is a sports project aimed at discovering more sports energies.
The tournament witnessed competition among the participants in a number of exciting games, including “FIFA 23”, “Modern Warfare 2”, “air hockey”, “fusball” and other electronic sports games, and it lasted from 11 am to 9 pm. Competitors from different age groups, citizens and residents, males and females, participated in it.
