Sharjah Department of Culture Announces Annual Program for Festivals and Forums

The Department of Culture in Sharjah announced its annual program for permanent festivals and forums, which will start this month and continue until August 2024.

The head of the department, Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, said, “The cultural role played by the emirate has made it a center of attraction for creators, their creativity, and their literary and intellectual productions, by hosting them in festivals organized by the department in many countries, under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Council.” The Supreme Ruler of Sharjah, which confirms the importance of these activities and events, and their role in activating the cultural arena locally, regionally, in the Arab world and internationally.

He explained that “activities, festivals and permanent forums find interaction, and the number of lovers of the word and the arts in their multiplicity and diversity increases,” pointing to the successes that have been achieved on all literary, artistic and cultural levels, as the forums focus on honoring the pioneers of culture in its various fields and include Arab countries.

Al-Owais added, “Poetry festivals have spread to several African countries, and their continuation and renewal is due to the great success they achieved in the presence of the participating poets and sectors of the audience that annually increase talents of all ages, in addition to the narration forums and honoring the winners of the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity.”

The new season will start this month with several activities, including the Mauritanian Literature Festival on the occasion of selecting “Nouakchott as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World”, in addition to the Tetouan Festival for Moroccan Poets in its sixth session in Morocco, in addition to the Kalba Festival for Short Plays in its 10th session hosted by the city of Kalba.

Next October will witness the Dibba Al-Hisn Cultural Festival in Dibba Al-Hisn, and the Mafraq Arabic Poetry Festival in its eighth session in Jordan.

November will be marked by several events, most notably the National Day celebrations, the Khorfakkan Cultural Festival, and the Marrakesh Festival of Arabic Poetry, while Egypt will host the Luxor Festival of Arabic Poetry.

Next December will witness the launch of the Sharjah Desert Theatre Festival, while the audience of Islamic arts will be on a date with the launch of the Islamic Arts Festival. In Tunisia, the Arab House of Poetry Festival in Kairouan will be present in front of Tunisian intellectuals, in addition to the Sharjah Award for Fine Criticism. The celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language will be organized in the House of Poetry in Sharjah, while the Sharjah Scout Theater Festival will be held at the Sharjah Scouts Commission, in addition to organizing cultural convoys in the Nahwa area.
