A prominent figure is slowly disappearing from the shareholder structure of Moneta Money Bank. Klaus Umek, a bon vivant and investment banker, got rid of almost half of his share in the bank in mid-April. The head of the activist fund Petrus Advisors, who in 2021 loudly protested the merger of Moneta and the banking branch of the PPF group’s business, sold the bank’s shares for almost a quarter of a billion crowns. Even after this transaction, Umek retained a share of one percent in Moneta. At the same time, investment group J&T and billionaire Pavel Tykač already declared their interest in buying Moneta shares last year.
“This is apparently the completion of the exit of the Petrus fund from the bank. Currently, there are three strong groups in the shareholder structure, it is difficult to predict their actions,” says Cyrrus economist Tomáš Pfeiler. With a share on the threshold of thirty percent, the PPF group is the strongest owner through its subsidiary Tanemo, with Tykač and J&T each owning roughly ten percent.
