From September 6th to 9th, the 12th Shanxi Province Disabled People’s Games was held in Datong. More than 400 disabled athletes from 11 cities across the province competed in track and field, swimming, deaf football and other events. .
Pang Xin, 39, participated in a sports competition for people with disabilities for the first time. “After receiving the notice, I immediately signed up to participate in the swimming competition.” Pang Xin told reporters that he has loved swimming since he was a child and started practicing when he was seven or eight years old. After this competition, he learned to swim again.
At the age of 23, a car accident broke Pang Xin’s life, resulting in the amputation of his left hand and both feet. After experiencing this ordeal, he gradually adjusted with an optimistic attitude and picked up his hobbies again to train hard.
In this competition, he participated in a total of 6 events in 3 swimming styles: breaststroke, backstroke, and freestyle. “I usually practice by myself in the swimming pool, and I insist on practicing for more than two hours every day.” Pang Xin said that because he had a swimming foundation since he was a child, although his body is disabled, after practice, he can find a balance and integrate into the competition.

Meeting many disabled friends was his biggest gain from this trip. “Although each has their own difficulties, they are all very sunny and often communicate with each other about what professions they are engaged in and how they practice.” Pang Xin introduced, “I have a disabled friend beside me. He is very inspiring and insists on persevering every day. I was inspired to learn from him by exercising for a longer period of time and developing strong muscles.”
“Life will encounter a lot of troubles, but we will still try to find a path that suits us and move in this direction.” This is the life guide that Pang Xin pursues. In addition to swimming, he also likes calligraphy and singing in life. Through these hobbies, he made many friends who taught music and loved calligraphy, and they communicated and taught each other.
Pang Xin hopes to participate in more competitions. He plans, “It won’t be long before I learn to swim again. I will slowly improve myself in the future, improve step by step, and swim better.” (End)
