CELEBRITIESShannen Doherty (52) has been fighting breast cancer for the second time for several years. The prospects are not good, but the American actress remains positive. She hopes to extend her life by five more years thanks to the many treatments. The ‘Charmed’ star says this in her podcast ‘Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty’.
“I always talk about extending my life by three to five years. By then there will be new treatments. Those options will give me another five years and then there will be new treatments,” Doherty, who has been struggling with stage four breast cancer for several years, sounds hopeful. The star previously announced that her cancer had spread to the brain and bone marrow. Yet she continues to look positively to the future.
Lawrence Piro, the actress’s oncologist, uses the analogy of horse racing to describe how cancer patients can use one treatment while waiting for another. “It is important to view every treatment as a horse. In a horse race you want to ride the horse as long as possible. Then you also ride the next horse for as long as possible. This way we make the race much longer,” he explains in the podcast.
This is now the second time that Doherty has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2015. Two years later, she announced that she was going into remission after undergoing chemotherapy. But in 2019, disaster struck the ‘Charmed’ star again: her breast cancer returned aggressively. In 2020, she revealed she had stage four cancer.

Own podcast
In the past, the actress has spoken out several times about the lingering disease. “I’m not done with my life yet. I’m not done loving yet. I’m not ready to die yet. My best and greatest memory is yet to come,” said ‘People’ last November.
Since December 6, Doherty has also had her own podcast, in which she talks candidly every week about life with the consequences of cancer. In ‘Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty’, listeners also get a glimpse into Doherty’s acting career and personal life, including her turbulent love life. She recently filed for divorce from her now third husband. “My podcast contains fun and less fun memories about the past, present and future.”
