Shanghai Stock Market Declines Amid Chip Sector Concerns

Today, December 26, the European stock markets are closed for the holidays, while during the Italian night the main Asian stock exchanges were opened and in the afternoon trading on Wall Street will be operational.

Shanghai, chip sector is bad

Asian markets remained stable in trading today, with some markets in the region closed for holidays. The benchmark Shanghai index posted losses in Asia amid sharp selling in technology and computer chip stocks as concerns about trade tensions with the United States and other Western countries reignited. The Shanghai Composite index fell 0.8% to 2,894.72.

In Shenzhen, where relatively more high-tech companies are listed, the A-share index lost 1.3%.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange accelerates at the end of the session and concludes trading with a slight increase, with investors triggering profit-taking in a context of reduced trading, with the main Asian stock markets closed today for the Christmas holidays. The Nikkei reference price list recorded a positive change of 0.16% at 33,305.85, and an increase of 51 points. On the foreign exchange market, the yen is stable against the dollar at 142.20, and against the euro at 156.80.

In South Korea, the Kospi rose 0.1% to 2,601.67. Bangkok’s SET rose 0.2%. Taiwan’s Taiex gained 0.7 per cent and Mumbai’s Sensex rose 0.4 per cent. Markets in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong remained closed.
