Shanghai-born Ni Xia Lian: A Table Tennis Champion with a Spectacular Career

Shanghai-born Ni Xia Lian won her first major medal as early as 1983 at the World Championships in the colors of China and her last so far at last year’s European Championships in Munich. She is currently 51st in the world rankings in singles, she celebrated her 60th birthday on July 4.

The men’s singles was won by Korea’s Ahn Chae-hyeon, who knocked out No. 1 seed Marcos Freitas from Portugal in the semifinals and beat No. 1 seed Simon Gauzy from France after a turnaround in the final 3:2.

Czech table tennis players did not place among the best at the tournament with a subsidy of 20,000 dollars: in singles, the second round was the maximum for Tomáš Polanský, Lubomír Jančařík, Pavel Širuček and Nikita Petrovová.

The next tournament of the WTT Feeder series will traditionally be played in Olomouc in three weeks.
