At only 19 years old, Shane Wright may not fit the dictionary definition of ‘journeyman’, but given the 2022-23 season he’s been through, the literal interpretation of the word seems like a fairly accurate description.
Since being drafted 4th in Montreal last year, the native of Burlington, Ont., has come full circle in the North American hockey pyramid. From his NHL debut with the Seattle Kraken and then the Coachella Valley Firebirds (AHL), to Canada’s World Junior Championship gold medal win in Halifax and the quest for a OHL championship with the Windsor Spitfires, Wright traveled. It’s the least we can say.
And well after a surprising loss in the first in the OHL, he is back in the American League, as reported by John Shannon.
Still, the Spitfires were the team to beat in their conference, having finished first, but they were swept by the Kitchener Rangers in the first round, with Wright having one goal and three points in four games.
Including the 4 playoff games, he played 24 games in Windsor, scoring 16 goals, 25 assists for 41 points.
