Shane Pinto Violates Sports Betting Policy, Apologizes and Receives Suspension

Pinto allegedly violated the policy against sports betting.

In New York, where the Senators are preparing for their Thursday night game against the Islanders, DJ Smith essentially confirmed the news. The head coach said that the team will give the young player all the support he needs. Pinto will be welcomed with open arms when he is ready to return to the game.

The American, who scored 20 goals as a rookie last season, has yet to sign a contract ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Shane Pinto offered a short reaction, in writing, in a press release that was issued at noon Thursday.

“I want to apologize to the NHL, the Ottawa Senators, my teammates, the fans and the City of Ottawa. I especially want to apologize to my family members. I am responsible for my actions. I can’t wait to see my teammates on the ice again.”

In the same statement, club management offered an official reaction.

“Shane is an important member of our organization. He is an endearing and intelligent young man who made some bad decisions. He received a suspension and we know that he is filled with remorse.
