VIK won 4-3 after penalties in Tingsryd on Friday evening. A strong effort considering that VIK was missing a full 12 players and had borrowed a fifth from Ettan.
As expected, tough initially. Many chances and a lot of puck Taif. Direct double chance Taif.
Hofbauer fixed a PP. 1-0 after a lovely cross pass in PP by Hellberg to Loponen who shot directly. VIK well after the goal before Taif took over.
Felpass Pelle Ström, the 29-year-old who made only his third HA match, but Ström would play himself. Dangerous with Åkerström free after open landscapes in the middle zone.
Kanga’s wrong pass behind the goal finally led to 1-1, unfortunate that those who have been with invite, Hofbauer also a little immobile perhaps and rounded.
Hellberg fouled in own zone and sent off. 1-2 after some nice play own zone Hellberg and Loponen, and Ruuskanen not the best def job maybe. Also strange that the otherwise brilliant Halonen just lay there without trying to locate the puck after being contacted by a green.
Full 8-0 chances Taif 5-5 after 20 minutes, even the tried and tested in VIK seemed tired initially. The Ettanlirare initially looked just like the Ettanlirare, but maybe they lost their nerves in the first?
Much better in 2a for VIK. But Komarek misses in a forward without puck and counterattack, Niilo good though.
Gersich fixed the PP. Good solid shots Loponen and Jansson, nice intentions in PP. Lindelöf nice preliminary work and Ström good shot, VIK’s first chance at 5-5 late. VIK came more and more.
Komarek showed up well and chance Ruuskanen who has good feet. Hofbauer involved, good backcheck, but late puck drop and free position but Niilo strong again.
Loponen also dropped the puck, but Niilo also took the free position. Hofbauer fixed the PP and class finish Komarek high in the far side until 2-2, preliminary work Lindelöf and finally roasting Gersich.
Komarek dukade even upp för Hellberg för god chans. Otherwise, Loponen gick lite bort sig på blau och ny utvisning. Skedung och Kanas bra slit BP.
4-3 chances Taif in 5-5 in the second period. 2-3 PP chances VIK. PP and Niilo enough the key to points?
The third started with another bold chance Taif immediately after a green PP. Hutchison made his way to an okay chance. Increasingly accurate Dmtriw freed Hutch, but sometimes #91 takes a little too much time.
Ruuskanen went for a slashing out of frame, but Gersich again took advantage of his blinding speed and fixed a green as they had PP.
2-3 late, 55.58, to VIK after good work in own zone by Jansson and Skedung. Then Hofbauer blew past everyone and put the pulley high-class between the leg guards, but the referee interfered with green as well. The stubborn Smålanders were then exasperated.
Then, however, green had a bit of luck with the referee when the streak missed an interference on Karl Andersson who gave street at 3-3 via a back shot after 57.31 after a wild green forcing. It was not unfair that Taif equalized as they had a full 8-3 in hot situations in the third period.
VIK has really played good hockey in overtime this season, including tonight. VIK lined up chances in 3-on-3, 5-2 chances for VIK where, among other things, Gersich got into several hot situations.
During the penalties, Dmytriw, Komarek and above all Gersich showed class and coolness as VIK managed to win. However, Taif sat several in the frames behind Halonen. Gersich got the last word when the shooting finally started to come late at last.
SUMMARY
Tingsryd won the chances by a whopping 20-6 (!) in 5-5 according to the blog’s notes. VIK has probably never created so little going forward in 5-5 and the difference has rarely been this big, but this time for 100% natural reasons. Instead, a hard-working Yellow and Black found other routes to victory. Impressive enough.
Halonen saved several free-kicks and penalties. The Finn again showed his very high peak capacity and without this goalkeeper play it would not have gone the way.
It is still difficult to complain about NJ’s and Max’s imports. Gersich as a new player for some time now, again high-octane with increasingly better precision. After 1+1 last night, Gersich now has 6+7 for 13 points in the last 12 games.
Dmytriw also similar development, all 9-0 in NP. If VIK can get back and keep people then it will be good on the forward side. And Komarek was very good the last two periods with a full 11-1 in NP.
Hofbauer also played his best game in a long time, as usual very involved and there is always a lot going on around #23, and usually it’s really good stuff. 6-2 in NP there for Hofbauer whose goal was really delicate.
On the reverse side, it was a bit up and down, but I think Loponen and Jansson have stepped up without the puck and are playing a bit more physically. Despite his size, Loponen is not weak, and another nice goal this evening.
Nikodemus Wernquist again did well during his nine minutes. The Vimmerby son Pelle Ström got a full 22 minutes (!) and started adventurously (3-3 in NP), but really played up when the nerves probably settled.
Johan Norberg unfortunately only had to sit on the bench. Östman managed to be 0-0 in NP in my book, Jansson and Lindelöf a little too adventurous with the puck sometimes.
Up front, the first-team players didn’t get to play much, but Markus Ruuskanen got 12 minutes and little happened: He burned a good chance after a nice pass from Komarek, was registered for a total of three shot blocks and incurred a dismissal. I thought Ruuskanen had pretty good feet, 2-3 in NP.
Gagic, Bernhardtz and Andersson only got 4-5 minutes so the loans from Halmstad were hard to get hold of, however Gagic did some good things (2-1 in NP).
Now VIK has to go home to Västerås and try to heal and recover squarely before Mora at home on Wednesday, December 20th.
It will be undeniably interesting if VIK can then have Dmytriw, Gersich, Hutchison and Komarek continue to be this hot and precise while Topping, Bergman, Mingoia, Jakobsson and a perhaps improved Engstrand return.
And young Hannes Hellberg made a real class pass in PP that opened up the whole of Småland. This despite the fact that #7 looks to be playing on one leg after the bang last time in the ABB Arena…
