International star Shakira, who was fined last Monday with more than 7 million euros ($7.66 million) on charges of tax evasion in Spain, paid an additional 6.6 million euros last August as part of another case, according to an informed source.
Last July, a court in the suburbs of Barcelona launched separate procedures against Shakira (46 years old) on charges of tax evasion dating back to 2018 amounting to $6.6 million, after adding late interest and settlement fees.
The agency representing Shakira told Agence France-Presse that the singer paid the full amount to the judiciary at the end of August, thus confirming information reported by the newspaper “El Periodico.”
The daily newspaper stated that the payment of 6.6 million does not constitute an indication of “the singer’s guilt or innocence” in this case, but rather is “additional evidence of her desire to pay any debts” owed to the Spanish tax authorities.
The judicial authorities in Catalonia did not respond after Agence France-Presse attempted to contact them.
The announcement of the payment of this amount comes after an agreement concluded last Monday between the Spanish Public Prosecution and the owner of the songs “Waka Waka” and “Hips Don’t Lie”, which included a trial on charges of tax evasion in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
It is noteworthy that the famous singer was linked to the former Barcelona star, Gerard Pique, and they separated last year.
Pique became involved with the Colombian singer of Lebanese origin, Shakira, after they got to know each other during the filming of the video clip for the song “Waka Waka” during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which his country won for the first time, according to an Agence France-Presse report.
Last November, the Spanish Barcelona defender suddenly announced his retirement from football at the age of 35.
With Barcelona, Pique won eight Spanish League titles, the Champions League three times (2009, 2011 and 2015), and the King’s Cup seven times, in addition to other titles.
He played with the Spanish national team between 2009 and 2018, winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Cup before retiring from international football after the World Cup in Russia.
Pique and Shakira have two children, and in June 2022 they announced their separation.
