The event was announced just a few hours before the start of the show but did not prevent the Colombian singer from attracting several thousand people.
In the battle for buzz with high-sounding figures, Shakira wanted to strike a big blow. The Colombian singer, in dispute for months with the Spanish tax authorities, announced on Wednesday on his Instagram account, a surprise concert in Time Square, just a few hours before the start of the event. Objective: celebrate the release of Women No Longer Cry, his new album. Perched on the TSX stage which overlooks the Broadway intersection, the singer prides herself on having attracted more than 40,000 spectators. This would be a record attendance for a concert organized on stage, inaugurated last summer, after the show of Post Malone and that of Jung Kook, of BTS, which would have each attracted 10,000 people. A good promotional move, in any case, even if the audience was probably much smaller than its producers announced.
Shakira begins her 15-minute mini-concert with a cover of her global hit Hips Don’t Liereleased in 2005 in the album Oral Fixation Vol. 2. She continues with pieces from her latest album. The 47-year-old singer took the opportunity to perform BZRP Music Session, Vol.53, its title which attacks Gérard Piqué, her ex-husband. In 2022, their breakup made the rounds on social networks, Shakira accusing the former footballer of having cheated on her and having “changed a Ferrari for a Twingo”.

The title Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53, in collaboration with Argentina’s Bizarrap, earned the 47-year-old pop star and the 25-year-old producer two Latin Grammys last year. He reached first place of the Billboard chart and broke four Guinness World Records for YouTube views and Spotify streams.
